ELIMINATORS
THE STORY: Deep in the mexican jungles, the evil Dr. Abbott Reeves brings his cyborg creation, the Mandroid back to the present from ancient Rome with his time machine. Then he informs his assistant Dr. Takada that he has no further use for the Mandroid and to dismantle him. Takada objects and helps the Mandroid escape, telling him to locate Colonel Hunter. Reeves has Takada killed. The Mandriod shows up in america and breaks into a research lab where he meets Col. Hunter (Denise Crosby, Tasha Yar of Star Trek The Next Generation) Hunter is appalled to find out that Reeves is still alive (she thought he was dead) and using her cybernetic research for evil. The Mandoid was once a pilot who was badly injured in a plane crash. Reeves rescued him and turned him into a cyborg. He can't remember anything else about himself, and he wants to kill Reeves. Hunter decides to accompany him on his quest, taking with her a little annoying robot called Spot. They hire a guide, Harry Fontana head for Reeves secret compound. Along Fontana and Hunter are kidnapped by Cavemen that Reeves brought to the present, and are rescued by Kuji Takada, Dr. Takada's ninja son, come to find out what happened to his father. When they reach the compound they find that Reeves has stolen artifacts from ancient Rome and turned himself into a Mandroid, He plans on going back to ancient Rome and setting himself up as ruler! In the following battle, the Mandroid is killed, and Reeves escapes in his time machine. Frustrated, Harry punches the computer panel and inadvertantly sends Reeves back several million years. The surviving heroes laugh heartily and the movie is over.
BEST LINE: "This is all some weirdass science fiction, thing, right?" Harry fontana commenting on the improbable situation this movie is about.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?:
1.) Colonel Hunter reacts as if she knows the mandroid is in the research lab before anyone alerts her. The security guards are the typical idiots common to these movies. But one wonders why there isn't better security.
2.) Colonel Hunter doesn't ask a lot of questions for someone who meets a half man, half robot guy with a crazy story that he can't even remember fully! Basically, she's like "Oh, you're a cyborg made by a man I thought was dead? Hell, lets go find him!"
3.) When Hunter enters the seedy bar and says she wants the toughest guide in mexico, Fontana's rival, Bayou Betty and her flunky are standing right next to him. Whats Betty do? She hits her flunky instead of Fontana!
4.) Its never established exactly what is Colonel Hunter a colonel of?
5.) In order to make it look like spot is floating in the air theres a visible rod holding it up behind the Mandroid. its hilarious because you can see it and Spot wobble on it when he moves.
6.) Kuji's a super ninja fisherman. when we first meet him he's fishing with his bare hands...as in the fish leap out of the water into his bare hands!
NUDITY AND SEX: You can get a quick glimpse of Denise Crosby's boobies when she changes shirts. She didn't look like she enjoyed that scene.
HUH?: This movie is plain goofy, and several times the heroes overlook easy solutions to their problems.
The adventurers escape the cavemen on a raft. The Mandroid puts his feet in the water and jets come out of his soles. When they are about to crash, he says he has a malfunction and can't turn his jets off...why doesn't he just lift his feet out of the water?
When Colonel Hunter becomes trapped in the sinking wreckage of an old plane Mandroid and harry go through an elaborate pulley scene to free her instead of just breaking the glass in the canopy!
THE TALLY: If you want a movie to make fun of, this one should be on your list. I saw it once in college and my roommates and I cracked jokes all night about it. (We also had a case of Colt 45) I think the script was written by a 12 year old trying to break into comic book writing. Good fun for the cheesey movie lover!
