The House where evil dwells

THE STORY: Centuries ago in Japan a warrior returned home just in time to catch his wife screwing around with another man. In a fit of rage he beheaded the man and slew the woman. Then the warrior committed suicide. Now all of their spirits haunt the house. In the present day (well, actually, more like 1980) Alex, an american businessman procures the house for his best friend Ted and his wife Laura and daughter Amy. Ted's a photojournalist and moves to Japan to do some photojournalism. Almost as soon as the family gets settled a local monk comes by and tells Ted if he needs help against the evil forces in the house to come see him in his nearby monastary. The ghosts don't waste too much time. The female ghost possesses Laura temporarily and has an affair with Alex behind Ted's back. The warrior ghost possesses Ted for a few minutes and make him act like a jerk to Amy. The couple are aware that something is weird in the house, but like most people in haunted house movies they don't do anything about it. Finally some ghost crabs chase Amy up into a tree (yeah, I said ghost crabs!) and she falls out injuring herself. Ted asks the monk for help. The old monk banishes the ghosts outside of the house, and tells Ted and Laura not to open the door until he returns in the morning. Thats when Laura tells Ted about her affair with Alex (for no good reason!) and Alex miraculously shows up at the door. Ted, angry, opens the door letting Alex and the ghosts back in. The spirits possess the living and reenact their fight, killing everyone. The end.

To be honest this movie seemed longer than it was. Probably because it wasn't that exciting.

BEST LINE: "I had an affair with Alex!"- Laura's famous last words. I just can't figure out why she had to tell Ted at that particular moment!

are you kidding me?:

1.) I've said it before, like in the review for Spirits, but why don't people just [unwrite]ing leave when they know the house is haunted? Heres a hint: If a monk in a nearby monastary tells you to come see him if the spirits begin to haunt you, either go see him or move the hell out! Laura actually sees a ghost and they still stay!

2.) I don't understand if Laura was totally under the ghost woman's control or not when she had her affair. To be honest, I think she wasn't.

3.) What the hell is Ted's job? He's a photojournalist but it doesnt seem like he has a job really. He can't be freelancing. That would be ludicrous!

4.) Laura sees a mask fly across the room but still doesn't head for the hills. Right.

NUDITY AND SEX: Theres a rather lengthy sex scene between Ted and Laura.

HUH?: When the crabs chase Amy out of the house what happened to her friend and babysitter?

Are crabs some kind of japanese curse? They look goofy and they kept shouting (Yes, the crabs spoke!) something. It looked so silly. Why didn't Amy just monkey stomp them?

Ooookay. The monk says "Don't open the door until morning" and ten minutes later Ted opens the [unwrite]ing door. Dummy.

Boy, the fight between Ted and Alex looked fake.

THE TALLY: This movie wasn't scary and it was actually pretty boring at times. I still wonder why Laura decided to blurt out her admission about the affair for no good reason at that particular moment. The crab scene is so ridiculous, though. My friend Sam and I watched this movie on HBO years ago and cracked up about it for a week.
