Last Action Hero

The Story: Before I start this review I would like to say a few things about what people say about the continuity errors in this flick.  Those errors are INTENTIONAL people!!!  It's supposed to be like a running gag but unfortunately nobody got it.  And because of it many critics hated it.  Hey if you don't believe check the IMDb under trivia for this movie.  Okay now that we got that out of the way it's time for what will be the Alternate Force's first guest review of...

Last Action Hero

As the movie opens police swarm a building (I think its a school) that is under siege by a ax wielding manic know as the Ripper.  The situation looks hopeless until Jack Slater (Schwarzenegger) an action hero type cop comes waltzing in.  Despite warnings from his fellow officers Slater loads up his Desert Eagle (I think) and goes in.  He  reaches the roof were he comforts the Ripper who has Slater's son hostage.  Slater throw's a grenade at the Ripper but it turn's out to be a fake.  But Slater's son picks it up and pushes a hidden switch and out pops a knife!  He stabs Ripper in the legs and Ripper throws his ax at Slater who dives out of the way (close call too) and fires a few shots at the Ripper and... the screen goes out of focus.

It turns out that was the climax of the movie Jack Slater 3 and in this theater we meet Danny, a young film buff who knows all those little movie clichés such as how all phone numbers end in 555, how the villain tells the hero about his plan when the hero's held at gunpoint thus giving said hero time to escape and so on.  He's a big fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the character he plays in the Jack Slater movies.  In one funny scene he imagines Schwarzenegger playing a part in the movie version of Hamlet.

Danny is thrilled when his old friend a projectionist named Nick offers to let him see a sneak peek at the new Jack Slater movie.  But before he goes in Nick gives Danny a special ticket. You see, that ticket was given to him by Houdini who once held a show there (it was once a vaudeville house) it was said that the ticket is "a passport to another world".  Nick never had the courage to find out if it worked or not though.
Nick tears the ticket (this is important later) and as he starts the movie he asks "Shall we see if Mr. Slater wins this time?"  Danny replies "Jack Slater can't lose!  Never has never will."

The plot of the Jack Slater isn't all that important.  Just a typical action story about mob families joining forces, gun battles, explosions, the whole nine yards.  During a chase scene the ticket goes into action and Danny winds up in the back seat of Slater's car.  After a cameo filled visit to the L.A.P.D. Danny becomes Jack's partner because he knows what's been going on.  After all he DID watch the opening scenes.
Danny tries to convince Jack that this world is just a movie.  Personally if I were him I'd try to have fun and live it up but that's just me.  I don't want to give away much of what happens in the Jack Slater movie but I will bring up a few things.  We find out what happened when the screen went out of focus: after the Ripper got shot he feel of the roof and he dragged Jack's son with him.  It has been haunting him ever since.

After Slater gets thrown off the force due to alot of property damage done by bomb set by the bad guys Danny and Jack stay at motel were Jack tells Danny about his sad life. Like how he just wants to be a normal cop but he always gets involved in all these adventures and how he keeps surviving.  I wonder if James Bond feels the same way?

But when a villain named Benedict gets ahold of Danny's magic ticket and goes into the real world Jack and Danny follow him.  But Jack will soon learn that things in the real world aren't the same as in the movie world.

Well I don't want to gave any thing away and I'm getting tired so I'll say my final thoughts.  Between the villain with the glass eye to the situations in Jack's world this movie is pretty good.  It's not the mega blockbuster is wants to but it has a charm of it's own.  I hope you people enjoy this movie, if your a film buff who knows all there is to cheesy action flicks you might like it a bit more.  I'm going to give this movie 3 devil heads.

Till next time
