Spectre

THE STORY: Every so often while looking for bad cheesey movies i happen upon a movie thats not really that bad. Like this one. Its not a classic or anythng, but as far as cheesey movies go, it wasn't bad.

The South family, Will, Maura and daughter Aubrie move from california into a bigass mansion in Ireland that they inherited. (from Maura's family) It seems before they moved there Will had an affair and Maura has only just now begun to forgive him. Maura's ancestors that owned the house were into black magic.Will finds an amulet nailed to wall in the cellar and takes it upstairs and unwittingly frees the evil spirits. After a few strange occurrences Aubrie is attacked by a ghostly presence in front of Will and Maura. they promptly hire Dr. Edward Shea, a spiritualist. With Shea's help the discover the body of a little girl, Colleen in the basement. Father Shamus the local priest gives the girl a decent burial and the South's invite everyone over for dinner to provide closure to the incident. During dinner all hell breaks loose. Literally. the evil force is still active in the house and more powerful than ever. Father Shamus admits that he has been to the house before to combat the evil and that it was he who place the amulet in the basement to hold back the demons. The evil force captures Aubrie and in a poltergiest like scene the family can hear her crying for help in the netherworld. Father Shamus explains how his dagger and the amulet are from a forgotten catholic ritual used to combat evil. Using the amulet he frees Aubrie. Unfortunately Dr. Shea is killed during the paranormal event. The South's decide to move. Staying in a hotel that night Maura is visited by visions of Will doing the wild thing with Shea's female assistant, Amy Wolfe. The visions continue the next day while they are packing their things in the house and it drives her mad. She throws Will out and tries to kill Aubrie. She has been possessed by the evil force. Will goes to Father Shamus for help but the evil has somehow killed him from a distance. With no other choice to save his wife and child Will takes Shamus' magic dagger back to the house and drives it into Maura's chest.(after a big fight scene of course) This frees Maura from the evil influence but the house begins to fall apart and burn. the South's escape the house and the evil.

As I said, this movie wasn't bad. When I say that I don't by any means say it was an Oscar winner but it didn't bore me and it didn't make me sick with its badness. Alexandra Paul plays Maura south. (Piranha, a bunch of TV movies, I think she was on Baywatch too.) Kudos to her.....when she goes crazy as Maura she really looked like she was [unwrite]ing nuts!

BEST LINES: "Mommy's just awful when she's this way."- The ghost of Colleen to Aubrie when Maura goes nuts.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?:

1.) This evil spirit doesn't [unwrite] around. The first person it kills is a maid by making her car explode.

2.) Okay, when the evil spirit attacks Aubrie, they all see it. They call Dr. Shea the next day but why did they even stay in the house that night. Just like in the movie Spirits, I say again, THEY SAW THE GHOST. Theres no question about the presence of an evil supernatural force. Which would you find preferable: A) Sleeping in your car, or B) Sleeping in a house inhabited by a demon from the hoary depths of Satan's hell?

3.) When all hell breaks loose at dinner and Shea is killed I had to wonder...what did they tell the police? Shea was beheaded and his head was on a balcony far away from his body. how do you explain that to the cops? "It was an evil spirit officer! Really!"

NUDITY AND SEX: Maura's visions of Will and Amy having sex. Actually amy is kind of wierd looking in a Kate Bush kind of way. English and irish accents are sexy on women though.

HUH?: Father Shamus tells Will and Maura that he didn't tell them not to move the amulet in the basement because he was afraid they'd think he was crazy. Well, hindsight is 20/20, but I'd still be kinda pissed. Thats important information! If I moved into a house I'd like to know if theres a certain object that can't be moved because it holds back evil spirits from the bowels of hell!

I cannot believe this movie! It made sense! The South's moved out of the house and only went back to get their things the next day! Wow. Usually in these kind of movies the idiots stay until the ghost either kills them or only one person is left alive!

I wondered above what they told the cops about Shea's death, but more importantly we never see any cops. did will dispose of the body or something?

THE TALLY: Not a bad movie. Its definitely worth a look if you just want to see a ghost in the house movie. Great for a Halloween party, too.
